Hey there,
It’s been an exciting season of growth and innovation at Aerontec. From opening our new Jeffreys Bay facility to seeing our materials shine in a beautifully crafted, eco-conscious surfboard, we’re staying true to our mission: bringing global expertise closer to home while supporting local creativity and sustainability. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
New Horizons: Aerontec Opens in Jeffreys Bay
We’re proud to announce the official opening of our new facility in Jeffreys Bay – a major step in expanding our footprint and deepening customer support along South Africa’s coast.
The launch event welcomed Cord Dankers (Integration Manager, Biesterfeld) and Andrew Parsons (Sales Director, Composites), who joined the local team to celebrate this exciting milestone. Their presence underscored the growing collaboration within the Biesterfeld Group and its vision for the region.
The facility is strategically positioned to enhance service in the Port Elizabeth and East London corridor – a growing hub for composites applications, including marine, wind, and industrial sectors.
What the new facility offers:
- Modern warehouse with improved stock holding for faster turnaround
- Expanded office space to support a growing team and customer interface
- Training and demo zones for resin infusion techniques and Bergolin wind blade repair systems
- A central point for logistics, technical support, and hands-on learning
With this investment, we’re not just adding square metres, we’re building local capability, strengthening customer partnerships, and ensuring quicker, more responsive service delivery.
And yes, Cord even fired up his first South African braai! With expert local coaching, he handled the tongs like a natural, earning himself honorary local status.
This new site is more than a building, it’s a symbol of Aerontec’s next chapter: global reach, local roots.
Customer Spotlight: A Sustainable Surfboard from The Boardroom
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a growing force in the composites industry. One standout example comes from our customer Dennis Ellis, founder of The Boardroom, who recently shaped a stunning surfboard that blends performance with eco-conscious materials sourced from Aerontec.
Crafted on South Africa’s southern coast, the board combines Sicomin’s Surf Clear Evo, a bio-based epoxy resin known for its clarity and durability, with basalt fibre fabric – a renewable, recyclable reinforcement made from volcanic rock. The result is a beautiful, high-performance board that reflects a growing trend toward greener board sports.
Why basalt fibre?
- Sourced from naturally abundant volcanic rock
- No chemical additives required in production
- Lower energy consumption and emissions than traditional glass fibre
- Fully recyclable, non-toxic, and extremely durable
The board’s copper-toned finish isn’t just easy on the eyes, it’s functional, too. Dennis reports a smooth, responsive ride that holds up well under pressure, whether in small waves or more powerful surf.
This project is a perfect example of how innovation, aesthetics, and environmental stewardship can work in harmony. Hats off to Dennis for leading the charge, and showing us that great boards can be green, too.
